O-mi-gosh. Isn't ALL of the above all about ME? A résumé gone wild? An exercise in ego-tripping?

Well, yes, you could look at it that way. But I'd rather you saw it as intended: not only as one struggler's literary laundry list as much as anyone-can-do-it documentation of breaking into print relatively late in life.

Here's the chronology:

  • first hardcover book at the age of 42
  • first nationally published poetry at 58
  • numerous interim articles and poems
  • first novel, Marine Corps Boot, at 72
  • first journalistic essay-series at 75.

Best of all, there's more on the way. Awaiting only the luxury of time are the raw materials for a poetry chapbook; working title "Deafness and Eye." A "Pop Quiz" magazine column of language tips for beginning writers. A serio-comic booklet on the New Age graffiti found in 300 bumper stickers; tentatively titled "Back Talk" (get it?). And on another level altogether, a memoir of reflections based on my privileged prison correspondence with my idol, the late anti-war activist Philip Berrigan.

None of these activities leaves me open for very much dialog with similarly oriented souls. But for anyone who cares to exchange interests or sentiments, I offer (hoping you'll accept the predictable answer-gap) this email address as our best channel of communication:
