Bear. Nora Marie Sheehan arrived in this world at 9:41 PDT on 6/1/2001 in Spokane, WA. Pat and Janet arrived at the hospital about 20 minutes prior to her birth.

We know that most of our fellow east coasters will insist that due to time zone differences she was born on June second, but official records dictate otherwise.

At birth she weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces and she was 18 and three quarter inches long. All tests that have been performed so far show her to be healthy, and personal experience shows her to be almost as happy as her new parents.

NORA BY THE NUMBERS

The charts below show the average growth rates for female newborns. The darker, center line in the lightly-colored areas shows the average figure. Nora's statistics are plotted in black.

This chart shows length on the top, and weight on the bottom. Nora is a VERY tall girl. She's in the 97th percentile for height. She's in the high 70's for weight, but given her height she's actually very lean (see next chart).
Nora Chart One.
This chart shows head circumferance at the top and length/weight ratio at the bottom. Nora's head circumference is slightly smaller than average and her weight is on the low side of average relative to her height.
Nora Chart 2.

I'm hungry!

The baby book says that Nora should eat 2.5 ounces for each pound that she weighs. Because she was having trouble digesting formula the folks at the hospital said to feed her only 25ml at any one time.

When she was released from the hospital she weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, that would mean she should eat about 19 ounces of formula each day. That's 534 ml, so at 25 ml per feeding that'd mean 21 feedings a day, or one feeding about ever hour!!! Not very practical.

So, for her first days home we've been gradually increasing her "intake volume." Here's "Nora by the numbers."

July 24, 2001 Update: My how her appetite has grown. Nora now averages 180ml at each feeding (more than she'd eat each day in early June), and she's averaging almost 800ml each day!

December 2, 2002 Update: Those were the days! Yesterday's intake was pretty average let's see... cereal and applesauce for breakfast along with a fruit breakfast bar; yogurt and half a mango for lunch, a banana for a snack along with some crackers, squash risotto for dinner along with some bread. Did we mention the three cups of orange juice and one of milk?
